About me
I am a fourth year Honours Mathematics student at the University of British Columbia. Having originally intended on graduating with a degree in biology, I pivoted towards mathematics after my second year at UBC with the goal of eventually going into mathematical biology. My work experience is still primarily on the biology side of things though and I love getting out into the field as much as possible. In 2021 I took a year off from school to travel around Ecuador volunteering at various biological stations and in the summer of 2022 I worked for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in the arctic monitoring shorebird nests, banding geese, and conducting breeding bird surveys (among other things). Since 2023 I have been working in the Irwin Zoology lab at UBC doing research on a computer model of a two species hybrid zone, and this summer I will be finishing a paper on my work from the previous summer and expanding the model to study the evolution of assortative mating in hybrid zones.
I am passionate about science and I've loved nature for as long as I can remember. I spend much of my spare time out in nature documenting birds, moths, dragonflies, and anything else I can find. My dream is to one day turn my passion into a career in research. I'm particularly interested in how mathematical and computer modeling can be used to study processes in evolutionary biology and ecology.
